Defence-oriented stocks are reacting to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's tweets on Sunday where an embargo was imposed on the imports of 101 defence items. The Ministry of Defence has prepared the list of those items. Contracts worth nearly 4 lakh crore will be placed upon the domestic industry within the next six to seven years. The list includes Wheeled Armoured Fighting Vehicles (AFVs) with indicative import embargo date of December 2021, of which the army is expected to contract nearly 200 of them at the cost of over Rs 5,000 crore. 1) Increase in Silver price will be positive for the Silver mining companies on account of large silver mining.2) The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Thursday relaxed gold lending norms, allowing lenders to give up to 90% of the value of the gold pledged as loans. 1) HDFC Bank- Shashidhar Jagdishan is currently an Additional Director and Head of Finance, HR at HDFC Bank. Jagdishan was the bank's top choice among 3 shortlisted candidates. The bank had recommended Shashidhar Jagdishan, Kaizad Bharucha and Sunil Garg's names for the post. Jagdishan joined HDFC Bank in 1996. Aditya Puri is set to retire in October 2020. 1) Wockhardt said it had agreed with the UK government to fill-finish COVID-19 vaccines. The manufacturing will be undertaken at CP Pharmaceuticals, a subsidiary of Wockhardt based in Wrexham, North Wales. "As per the terms of the agreement, the company has reserved manufacturing capacity to allow for the supply of multiple vaccines to the UK government in its fight against COVID19, including AZD1222, the vaccine co-invented by the University of Oxford and its spinout company, Vaccitech, and licensed by AstraZeneca," the company said.2) Tata Motors reported better than expected Q1 results. 1) The government has moved to curb imports on coloured TVs and place them into the restricted category. More than 25% of TVs in India are imported from countries such as China and Vietnam. This ban applies to LED televisions of all sizes, and any importer must have a licence to import. It’s a very beneficial move for local manufacturers as TVs sold in India will have to be manufactured in India.2) State Bank of India reported a standalone profit of Rs 4,189.34 crore for the quarter ended June 2020, a growth of 81.2% over a year-ago period driven by stake sale in life insurance business, but the provisions and lower non-interest income limited growth. The provisions and contingencies at Rs 12,501.3 crore increased by 36% year-on-year including additional provision of Rs 1,836 crore on account of COVID-19 related accounts, ad-hoc provision of Rs 1,614 crore for wage revision and Rs 5,230.4 crore towards fraud accounts. However, provisions on sequential basis fell 7.4%.
